They say all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Well, we say, what if work itself was play. That’s what our students at St. Peter’s did today. A team from Play2Learn taught our students that work is as interesting as play. Our excited and energetic students learnt fractions through a dice game, states of India and its importance by Ludo, periodic table using the game Battleship,  place values through card game, Math concepts by Mathonopoly and science through Snake and Ladder! Learning has now become fun for our students.

CBSE Talent Show – They Farm, We Eat!

CBSE talent show was held on 4th March, 2017 and was centred around the theme – “Agriculture”. With the recent events in Tamil Nadu concerning farming, the students found it socially relevant to celebrate the noble profession of Agriculture. Parents and teachers were present in good numbers to encourage the performers with their animated cheering. The Director (Mr.Rohan Sambabu) and Administrator (Mrs. Nirmala Sambabu) were the Chief Guests, and added to the exciting atmosphere.

“They Farm, We Eat!” was the tagline which resonated across every performance. The program began with a Bible reading and a welcome address from the tiny tots of CBSE. A soul-stirring rendition of the prayer song by the CBSE choir was followed by a thought-provoking address from the Principal. The program was off to an energetic start with the Gangnam-style inspired dance by classes 1 to 3. It was an eye-opener to know the dance was inspired by the Gangnam district in South Korea which highlights the importance of agriculture in the development of a city. A moving speech in Hindi about agriculture in India “Jai Kisaan” by a student of class 6 was followed by folk dances from classes 4 and 5 and the angelic voices of the choir from classes 1 to 3.

The Tamil skit had a hard-hitting message for the audience – encourage local produce & products, and know its benefits. The skit was made more vibrant with the realistic stage props. The English skit – the World needs Farmers – was moving in its message of farming being a noble profession, one that is equally (and maybe more) important than that of a doctor or an engineer. A choreography performed in the art form of a “Street Play” brought a fitting finish to the theme with an awareness of the adverse actions of multi-national corporations in farming. The show was brought to an end with a fun-filled dance by the boys of class 8. The entire program was kept more interesting with solo instrumental performances by the students on the drums, keyboard and guitar and the spirited singing from the various class choirs.

Overall, it was an unforgettable evening and celebrated the spirit of farming!

We Are the Champions!

The district basketball matches were held in our school on 6th October 2016. The matches were tough and challenging, but as the title of this article suggests, St. Peter’s emerged victorious in all the six categories that we participated in! This was an unforgettable moment in my life. The matches were tough since the teams from the plains (Dindigul, Theni, etc.) were tough opponents. Our coach, Mr.Joseph was very proud of us when we won the matches. The junior team has won the district title after 7 years! And I am proud to have been a part of that team.

After the district matches, we progressed to the next round which was the Divisionals. The divisionals are only for the Under-17 and Under-19 categories. To the great delight of the whole school, the senior boys team (Under-17 category) won the divisionals and have now moved to the State Level for the very first time in the history of the school!! The matches were thrilling and had a nail-biting finish. We were sad that we lost in the other categories (with close margins) but have hope that we will win it in the next year!

These victories brought great joy to our Correspondent sir, Administrator ma’am, our Director Rohan sir, senior co-ordinator of CBSE Sandra ma’am and all the teachers and students! I hope this winning streak continues in the coming years, since WE ARE THE PETERITES – THE MIGHTY MIGHTY PETERITES!

Vases from Waste https://petersschoolkodai.com/vases-from-waste/ Wed, 28 Dec 2016 01:37:22 +0000 https://www.petersschoolkodai.com/?p=1436 Plastic items are non-biodegradable, which means it takes a long time (at least 50 years!!) to go into the soil. Did you know we could make use of it instead of throwing it away? That is exactly what we did in CBSE “Vases from Waste”.

On 21st October, we were asked to bring items such as plastic bottles, paint, jute rope, glue, scissors, woollen thread and some decorative items to make vases out of these waste plastic bottles. We helped each other, shared, and had lots of fun! Sandra ma’am invited a special guest to judge the competition, Mrs.Priya Jaykesh, who spoke to us about the importance of this activity and showed us a few sample vases she had done. They were truly wonderful. Though it was a tough competition, Mrs.Priya chose the best vases. She awarded them with the amazing vases with plants in them, that she had made herself.

Thanks to our teachers and lovely friends, we had a great time!

Cursive (or conjoined) writing is taught and trained at St.Peter’s to improve the handwriting of students. As part of the weekly talent programs conducted by the CBSE management of the school, a handwriting competition was recently conducted for the CBSE students.

There were three judges to assess the entries, and all participants were divided into three categories. Some of the key parameters the judges took into account included presentation, legibility of the written content and the spacing between words.

All participants had done a very good job and three winners were chosen from each category. The competition was very useful since developing a neat handwriting would help in clarity of thought and jotting them down in an organized manner.
The students were motivated and enjoyed the competition.
